Class 5 Driving Lessons
One-on-one driving lessons for experienced drivers, newcomers to British Columbia and drivers preparing for an ICBC Class 5 road test when required.
Class 5 is the full, unrestricted British Columbia driver's licence.
Starting October 19, 2026, eligible Class 7N drivers will no longer need to take a second road test to move to Class 5. Instead, ICBC will use a Driving Record Assessment. Class 5 road tests will still apply in some licensing situations, including certain newcomers and foreign licence holders.
Every lesson is one-on-one in an automatic, fully insured dual-control vehicle, with an ICBC-licensed instructor beside you. We start by finding out how you actually drive, then spend the remaining time on the habits that cost drivers points and cause collisions: lane changes without a proper shoulder check, rolling stops, poor speed control in school and playground zones, and hesitant left turns across traffic.
Lessons are taught in English or Portuguese. We practise on the kinds of roads and traffic conditions you meet day to day, and around the area of your ICBC office if you have a road test booked.

Perguntas frequentes
How much does a Class 5 driving lesson cost?
A one-hour Class 5 lesson costs $75 CAD, a 1.5-hour lesson $110 CAD and a two-hour lesson $140 CAD. The car is included in the lesson price. Renting our car for a road test is a separate $120 CAD, and ICBC’s own test and licensing fees are separate again.
How many lessons will I need?
It depends on how much you have driven recently and how confident you are. Drivers who are on the road regularly usually need two to four lessons. Drivers who have barely driven for a while typically need more. We tell you honestly after the first lesson.
Do you provide the car for a Class 5 road test?
Yes. Renting our insured dual-control automatic for the test costs $120 CAD. It is prepared to meet ICBC’s road-test vehicle requirements, and many students book a lesson right before the test as well.
Can I take Class 5 lessons in Portuguese?
Yes. Lessons are available in English and Portuguese at no extra cost. Let us know which you prefer when you book.
Do I still need a Class 5 road test after my N?
Starting October 19, 2026, eligible Class 7N drivers will no longer need to take a second road test to move to Class 5. Instead, ICBC will use a Driving Record Assessment. Class 5 road tests will still apply in some licensing situations, including certain newcomers and foreign licence holders.
